New laboratories for joint research with industry have been opened at Satbayev University
Satbayev University has expanded its scientific and production infrastructure: as part of Science Day, new research laboratories were opened at the university, created jointly with industrial partners. Their launch strengthens the link between science and the economy’s real sector and creates new opportunities for applied research in energy, metallurgy, geology and ecology.
The key result is that University forms a unified scientific ecosystem, where research is immediately focused on practical application. New laboratories are being created not as separate academic sites, but as work centers embedded in the tasks of industry.
One of the central projects was Smart Petro Hub engineering laboratory, which was opened with the support of Tengizchevroil. It combines digital modeling, hydrodynamic analysis of deposits, artificial intelligence technologies and solutions in the field of carbon dioxide capture and storage. Laboratory will allow students and researchers to work with technologies that are already becoming the global energy standard.
Several laboratories are focused on the tasks of the mining and metallurgical complex. With the support of Oskemen titanium and magnesium industrial complex, there was opened a laboratory of rare and refractory metals, where applied production tasks of the industry will be solved. Together with “Balaussa company”, there was created a laboratory of metallurgical processes, thermal engineering and powder metallurgy, covering the entire cycle – from basic research to industrial testing.
A laboratory for digital processing and interpretation of geophysical data was launched in partnership with Kazatomprom. Big Data and artificial intelligence methods are applied here to improve the accuracy of geological exploration, create digital twins of deposits and increase the subsurface development efficiency.
A separate area is related to water safety issues. Groundwater Modeling Lab highlights modeling groundwater dynamics and digitally supporting hydrogeological research, which is especially important for Kazakhstan in the context of increasing pressure on water resources.
Therefore, the new laboratories have become not just an extension of the infrastructure, but the next step in the model where Satbayev University acts as a link between science, education and industry. It is this integration that makes it possible to quickly turn scientific ideas into technologies that are in demand by the economy of Kazakhstan and the region.
