Peaks of science and spirit: Satbayev University professor hoisted the university's flag on Everest

The conquest of Mount Everest is a symbol of human superpowers. And it is on the eve of Day of Science Workers that Satbayev University celebrates a unique victory, proving that our scientists are strong not only in classrooms and laboratories, but also at the most extreme peaks of the world.

Gulnara Maulenova, an associate professor at “Architecture” department, successfully climbed 5364 meters as part of an international expedition, reaching the Everest Base Camp. This trekking has become a real test of endurance: 8 days of a difficult 70-kilometer route with a 3,000-meter climb on foot.

Satbayev University’s flag is at the peak

A special, symbolic moment of the expedition was the hoisting of our University’s flag at the achieved height. At the peak, Gulnara Dzhuparbekovna scattered (hoisted) Satbayev University’s flag, leaving there a piece of the spirit of our University. This gesture underlines that the scientists of K.I. Satbayev KazNRTU strive for the top everywhere - both in science and in life.

"There are different kinds of victories. Our scientists are everywhere and even conquering Mount Everest. This example inspires and proves that there are no insurmountable obstacles for a person with a firm will and a clear goal," the university notes.

Intellectual nation: knowledge and values

On the eve of Day of Science Workers, State’s Head Kassym-Jomart Tokayev paid special attention to forming the intellectual nation at the award ceremony for scientists. Quoting Abai, President stressed that the given process requires not only deep knowledge, but also prioritizing the values such as responsibility, justice and mutual respect. State’s Head recalled that the formation of intelligent and enlightened youth is a shared responsibility of the state and parents.
