Kazakhstani scientists are changing the renewable energy market: currently, it is being used not only by large enterprises, but also by average consumers

Satbayev University summed up the work of a pilot production line for manufacturing the solar panels based on Satbayev University Physics and Technology Research Institute. Over the past year, the production, organized jointly with Technogruppservice, focused on the production of modules with the capacity of up to 150 megawatts per year, has become one of the key projects in the field of renewable energy sources and technological independence of Kazakhstan.

Owing to Institute’s work, Kazakhstanis have the opportunity to apply modern solar panels of domestic production, which provide higher efficiency, stable energy production and a long service life in the climatic conditions of Kazakhstan. Such panels are already used by factories in Kazakhstan, but they are suitable not only for enterprises and infrastructure facilities, but also for private homes due to their affordable price, capacity, stable operation and durability.

Physics and Technology Institute was the first in Kazakhstan to elaborate solutions and work in heterojunction solar cells sphere. The given technology is based on the achievements of quantum physics and modern nanotechnology. For twenty years, scientists have adopted the experience of German and Russian manufacturers and have become one of the first manufacturers of solar panels in Kazakhstan using Tunnel Oxide Passive Contact (TopCon) and Heterojunction Technology (HIT) technology. This is an innovative approach aimed at improving the solar cells efficiency.

Developers of solar cells, from which such panels are assembled, note that they are not going to stop there:

We are scientists and we are constantly working on these elements to make them more reliable and meet the requirements of Kazakhstani consumers” - said project manager, scientist Nikolai Chuchvaga. “We are also working on perovskite technologies for solar cells and vanadium batteries. This is a general movement towards renewable energy sources,” he said.

Project is focused on the needs of the domestic market and regions with high solar insolation. Local production reduces dependence on imported components and helps strengthen the national brand of high-tech products. Special attention is paid to adapting the panels to the climatic conditions of Kazakhstan, durability and energy efficiency.

Linking the results of the outgoing year with the expectations of the new one, Institute's team emphasizes that solar energy is becoming a symbol of sustainable development and confidence in the future. Nanotechnology and advanced engineering solutions are embodied in practical projects that work for the benefit of people, increase energy security and open up new opportunities for the country's economy. The work of scientists and engineers at Satbayev University will continue to strengthen Kazakhstan's scientific potential and expand the use of renewable energy sources in the interests of society and sustainable future.
