Satbayev University hosted an international scientific and practical conference dedicated to 75th anniversary of ‘Geophysics and Seismology’ department

Satbayev University hosted the international scientific and practical conference "75 years of “Geophysics and Seismology” department - education, science and destiny", which brought together several generations of scientists, teachers and graduates. The event was opened by Vice-rector Yerzhan Kuldeyev, emphasizing the importance of the anniversary and the warm connection of graduates with the university. "75 years is a big date. Over the years, the department has trained golden cadres, of whom we are proud. University is your home. Wherever you work, always remember your native land and come and share your successes," he addressed the guests.

Conference was attended by young researchers and veterans of the department, who exchanged experiences and discussed the current state of geological and geophysical research in Kazakhstan. Special attention was paid to the prospects for evolving the geological and geophysical research in Kazakhstan, assessment of seismic hazard and topical issues of training engineers of a new generation.

As part of the program, industrial partners were invited, and the grand opening of the new “Research and Education Center for Geophysics and Drilling Technologies” laboratory, which will become a platform for executing the advanced scientific projects, took place. Participants also visited the geological museum and walked around the campus, getting acquainted with the updated infrastructure of University. At the end of the conference, a student competition on “Geo-Strike” game was held, in which teams of students from Satbayev University, KBTU and Caspian University took part.

 “Geophysics and Seismology” department is one of the leading departments of University. Since its establishment in 1950, it has been a leading scientific and educational center that trains specialists in the field of geophysics, mining, geology and exploration of the subsoil of Kazakhstan. Department’s head is Boranbai Ratov.

Department anniversary was held in the warm, family atmosphere, reminding of the continuity of scientific schools and that the main wealth of Satbayev University is the people who create and continue the history of Kazakh geophysics.
