Satbayev University will open a new center, which will become the center of French speech and international cooperation in Almaty

Satbayev University hosted a working meeting between University’s Rector Meiram Begentayev, and representatives of French Embassy in Kazakhstan, headed by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Sylvain Giogue. The parties discussed the prospects of cooperation between Satbayev University and French universities. The main topic of discussion was the opening of the French Center at the university, which will become a platform for language learning, cultural exchange and joint degree programs.
Rector of Satbayev University Meiram Begentayev stressed that such a center can become a center of attraction for all residents of Almaty interested in studying the French culture:
– We want our students to be proficient in French, because it is the language of science, technology and business. On our campus, we want to recreate the atmosphere of France, open a French cafe with French music, and students participating in double degree programs will learn the language from the very first day at the university.
The meeting was attended by First Vice-Rector for International Cooperation and Strategic Development Samgat Yermekbayev, as well as French Consul General in Almaty Fabrice Neveu and international education expert Agnes Busse, who has long worked with Satbayev University to develop academic ties between Kazakhstan and France.
During the meeting, French Ambassador to Kazakhstan Sylvain Giogue noted the growing interest of French universities and companies in cooperation with Kazakhstan. He stressed that knowledge of the French language opens up new career prospects for students, especially due to the active participation of French enterprises in evolving the infrastructure and energy projects in Kazakhstan.
Of particular interest was the discussion of cooperation in hydrogeology and nuclear energy sphere. Kazakhstan has significant groundwater reserves, and the exchange of experience with French experts will help introduce advanced technologies in the field of water treatment and ecology. University is ready to host volunteers who are ready to work and gain new knowledge in the sustainable development field.
The center is scheduled to open in September 2025, and its launch will be an important step in strengthening French-Kazakh educational and scientific ties. It is also planned to launch a summer engineering school with the participation of leading French specialists, the development of academic mobility programs and technology transfer.
